Split Systems

Split systems consist of an outside condenser unit and an internal cassette. This increases the capacity of the condenser, allowing it to cool much larger rooms. Alternatively, several cassettes can be linked to a single condenser. This type of system is known as a multi-split system.

Split systems are cost-effective to install and can be designed to cool any size of building from small industrial units to hotels and shopping centres. The cost of the system will depend on the number of cassettes and the capacity of the condensers.

Cassette Systems

Cassettes are the interior component of split/multi-split systems. They turn liquid refrigerant from the condenser into a vapour which is then vented into the room. New models are typically more efficient at doing this than older models, so they are often replaced as part of a more comprehensive office refurbishment program.

Cassettes are available in several sizes with both wall or ceiling mounting options. These are compatible with most major manufacturers of condensing units.

Ducted Systems

Ducted systems, sometimes known as central systems, can distribute both cool and warm air throughout the building. Unlike split systems there is no internal cassette, warm and cold air is fed from the external unit to grills inside via ducting. This allows them to cool several rooms at once but there is no ability to set individual room temperatures.

Ducted systems are quite comprehensive and space will be needed for the large external condenser and internal ducting. This means they are only suitable for offices, gymnasiums, campuses and larger homes.

Monoblock Systems

Monoblock systems are all-in-one units which don’t have a separate condenser. This type of system needs to be mounted on an external wall so that it can be easily vented. Alternatively, window-mounted systems are also available which can be vented through an open window. This reduces installation costs but will block out some light.

Monoblock systems are available in several sizes and are capable of cooling a room up to 500 sq. ft. This type of system is ideal for smaller applications where you only need to cool one or two rooms in a facility.

Portable Systems

Portable systems are compact all-in-one monoblock systems which can be easily moved from room to room. They come with a vent pipe which needs to be routed through an open window or vent. Portable systems are an ideal solution for cooling temporary buildings such as portacabins or as a stop-gap for when your fixed system is faulty.
